FAQS

Here are answers to some of the questions that many people ask about this amazing concept.

Will people in poor communities really receive clean water after I buy 'Safe Water'?

They get more than just water because we at Oxfam Hong Kong aim for sustainable development in all our programmes. That means your donation is likely to also cover other parts of the project, such as providing public sanitation facilities and promoting hygiene in poor areas. (See the ‘How it works’ section for more information.)

If someone living in poverty gets access to clean water because of my gift, what do I get?

You receive the satisfaction of making a difference in the world. You also receive a card to give to the special person for whom you are making this donation. Inside the card, we will outline information about how much your donation can achieve.

Can I send the card myself?

Yes! Or we can send the card directly to the recipient. If you want us to send it, you can let us know what you would like to write in it before it is sent.

What will the card look like?

Here are samples:

Printed cards:
(Note: you can also choose a blank card, with no personalised message, to be sent directly to you.)
E-cards:

How long does it take for a card to be delivered?

We need 1-2 days to process your order form, while the post office needs roughly 1-2 more days for mail that is delivered within Hong Kong. Delivery times may vary though, especially during Christmas or the Lunar New Year.

Are my contributions tax-deductible (applicable to Hong Kong residents only)?

Yes. If your total donation (in money terms) for the year exceeds HK$100, your contribution(s) to Oxfam Hong Kong are tax-deductible as per the Inland Revenue Ordinance.

How secure is my information after I submit it?

The personal information you provide to Oxfam Hong Kong is confidential and will only be used for purposes of receipting, communication on development and emergency relief matters, fundraising, employment recruitment and purposes in line with the mission of Oxfam Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance entitles you the right of access and correction with respect to personal data.
